The Civil War was the bloodiest conflict in American History. It claimed over 600,000 lives in just four years of conflict. It was fought over 150 years ago but its themes are still relevant and its influence is still felt in modern culture. The American Civil War was one of the first conflicts to be widely photographed. 150+ years have passed and time has played its toll on these early photos, often poorly preserved. Many images have to be extensively reconstructed prior to being colorized. I hope that my work can help us to remember and learn from the reasons for which this terrible war was fought.
